Launched in 2004, the National Traffic Incident Management Coalition (NTIMC) is a multi-disciplinary partnership forum spanning the public safety and transportation communities to coordinate experiences, knowledge, practices, and ideas. NTIMC is committed to safer and more efficient management of all incidents that occur on, or substantially affect, the nation’s roadways in order to:
- Enhance the safety of on-scene responders and of motorists passing or approaching a roadway incident.
- Strengthen services to incident victims and to stranded motorists.
- Reduce incident delay and costs to the traveling public and commercial carriers.

Summary of the January 11, 2012 NTIMC in-person Meeting Now Available. The NTIMC held a general membership business meeting at USDOT Headquarters in Washington, DC on January 11, 2012. During the meeting, members shared updates on current activities and were presented with the revised final 2012 Strategic Plan to be presented to USDOT Executives later in the week. Other topics on the agenda included discussion of the NTIMC Strategic Plan and corresponding activities, updates on the FHWA Roadmap, updates from each of the working groups, and the general status of each NTIMC member. Summary of Sept 8, 2011 NTIMC Strategic Direction Setting Webinar. The NTIMC is updating its strategic direction to support the Next Generation of TIM Programs. This new NTIMC Strategic Direction was initiated with a September 8, 2011 - Stakeholder Orientation & Involvement Webinar. With over 100 in attendance, participants represented nearly every TIM stakeholder group including 37 different states. The webinar began with an overview of selected National TIM Initiatives by leaders of the respective groups and was followed with an in-depth open discussion/Q&A session with webinar participants on the critical issues facing TIM stakeholders today. The conversation stirred up momentum for coordination between the different national TIM stakeholder groups and concluded with a request to participants to complete the TIM Stakeholder Needs Assessment Survey, which is now closed. TIM Response Lane Designation Terminology. Members of the Practices and Procedures working group developed a two-page fact sheet that identifies a system of terminology TIM responders. The technical brief is intended as a resource for agenices looking to adopt a multi-discipline communication system for personnel responding to incident scenes. The I-95 Corridor Coalition successfully hosted the National Unified Goal Summit for Traffic Incident Management near Baltimore, Maryland. There were 156 attendees representing multidisciplinary response interest, and an additional 150 persons attending via web conference. Co-Hosts included the Federal Highway Administration and the National Traffic Incident Management Coalition, the Summit focused on the three major NUGobjectives: Responder Safety; Quick Clearance; and Prompt, Reliable Interoperable Communications. FHWA Releases 2009 TIM Self Assessment Results. On January 28, 2010, Jeffrey Lindley, FHWA Associate Administrator for Operations, issued a memo announcing the 2009 TIM Self Assessment Results and the self assessment schedule for 2010. A full-length report is also available.
FHWA NUG Webinar Presentation Available. On February 24, 2010, FHWA hosted a webinar on the National Unified Goal (NUG) for Traffic Incident Management (TIM) and how to integrate the implementation strategies into State and local TIM programs. The presentation from that webinar is available here.
FHWA Launches TIM Performance Measurement Knowledgebase and LISTSERV. These new tools offer transportation professionals complementary and convenient ways to share and exchange knowledge and materials on program-level TIM performance measures. The Knowledgebase and be found at http://www.ops.fhwa.dot.gov/eto_tim_pse/preparedness/tim/knowledgebase/index.htm.
